August 14, 15, 16, 2009 Shelton, WA

Shelton Washington is the “Christmas Tree Capital of the World”, home of the spotted owl, loamy rain forests, Bambi and assorted sea creatures in Oakland Bay. Join us on August 14-16 at the rocking home and property of Sid and Mary Bechtolt - music lovers who have hosted the music festivals ‘SquidStock’ and ‘SpringFest’ at their property for years, with two stages to choose from.

So, bring your dulcimers and look forward to our traditional Friday night campfire, Saturday night concert, jamming, workshops and more. Tent and RV camping is available and motel, restaurant and shopping facilities are only 10- 15 minutes away. Cabins are not available on-site; however, there is a bed & breakfast nearby. Refrigeration may not be available, and showers will probably not be available, so please plan accordingly.

Address: 2680 E. Agate Road, Shelton, WA  -  Directions

Driving from I-5 North or South: img_0999_14From I-5 Olympia, take Exit 104 (Highway 101) Stay right and follow Hwy. 101 signs to Shelton. After about 20 miles, take the Highway 3/Bremerton/Shelton exit. You will be on Hwy 3, going through town. About 2 miles later, turn right at the “ProBuild” Store and continue 8 miles on Hwy. 3 to Agate Road. Turn right onto Agate Road and drive approx. 2.6 miles. Look for KG paper plates on the right. If you end up at the Agate Loop Road, you’ve gone too far.

To consider
If you are flying, you may want to consider flying into the Portland, Oregon airport (PDX). Driving time from Portland to Shelton is approximately 2 hrs. 15 min’s and the torturous drive from SeaTac airport to Shelton is about 2 hrs, depending on traffic. Airfares to Portland vs. SeaTac airport are often less as well.

Food
At the office they’d call this a “gentle reminder”, but for KG, we can say: “Listen Up, Folks!”

It’s hard to believe, but last year we ran short of food. Yes, unfortunately, some people brought more greenbacks than groceries. This makes the cooks cranky because they don’t have time to run to the store during KG. So, please bring food items to contribute to meals for yourselves and others. A Safeway store is close by so you can pick things up before you drive out to Sid & Mary’s. This is our weekend to eat, play, drink and be merry, so let’s go for it!

Friday Night dinner
Cold dinner buffet and BBQ. Bring a potluck dish, critters, or veggies to roast on the Barbee.

Saturday Night dinner
Mexican Night, ole! You know what we like; beans, cooked rice, meats, tortillas, chips, hot sauces, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, cabbage, garlic, onions, olives, peppers, shredded cheeses, sour cream, cilantro, limes, tequila, etc. etc; whatever you fancy for contributing to make a fantastico Mexican-style meal.Kindred Gathering XXXV

August Weather in Shelton, WA

The weather here can be varied, so pack clothing you can layer. It could rain, you never know. It could be anywhere from 55 to 90 degrees, but you never know. Be sure to bring your swimsuit for swimming in a nearby lake, and hopefully it won’t be too cold. You never know.

The upshot of this is that we never know! But it will probably be nice, unless it rains.
