Swannanoa Gathering Dulcimer Week, July 9-15, Warren Wilson College, Asheville, N.C.
This is the 15th year that one of the premier folk art schools in the country has presented a summer-long program for music, dance, food– and much more. My week to be there was in July, but I could easily see myself attending any one of their other camps and I urge you to check them out, the season is not over. The college espouses a philosophy by Glenda Jackson that carries over in all walks of life: You’ve got to sing like you don’t need the money. You’ve got to love like you’ll never get hurt. You’ve got to dance like there’s nobody watching. You’ve got to come from the heart, if you want it to work. Oh, and their web page is one of the best for actually getting the information you need. http://www.swangathering.org/

Robert Force! Ho! Lynne is better in health today than when you saw her last. Music too. Has enough energy to drive me crazy (in a familiar way). At this moment it is her dissing my input on audio equipment to compliment the dulcimer and our string band. Do you know…? There is a condenser mic, the AKG C3000B, that I recently saw on stage. The band, lead by Bob Black (banjo) of Iowa City, Ia, was Bob (vocal & banjo), Kristie Black (vocal & rythm guitar), a guy (excellent finger picking flat top guitar & vocal), Brandenberger (champion fiddler), and a stand up bass & vocal.
There was one mic on stage, and no plugged in insturments at all(except a pickup on the bass). They all stood around the mike, in the fashion of the scene from O Brother Where Art Thou, in the radio station. This was an AKY C3000B. Sounded great.
Now Lynne is making every kind of nonsense against this mic, as a possiblity for our group (including her dulcimer). She seems stuck on her “Im a dulcimer player and that is not like any other insturment when it comes to recording.”
Do you have any idea here?
